Vikwood

So trying to find quartersawn honduran mohagany isn't as easy as the Home Depot, you can't even get this stuff in HONDURAS!!! Just joking, I'm sure people use it for firewood in Honduras. So I found this place in Sheboygan called Vikwood. Vikwood is a major exotic wood supply house to Martin and luthiers all over the world...right in my backyard. So I call down there and say " I am this dude who makes ukes in his garage...can you sell me some wood?" Chris was super nice, so I brought Syd down with me and had a blast. Here are some shots of the Vikwood warehouse o wood.

How it all began...

Yes, I know, another hobby?! We'll this I am treating more like a part time job, but it has made me no money yet...only costing money...so it is still a hobby.

I have been a woodworker for a long time, since high school. I have also loved stringed instruments, and have a pretty good heritage with blugrass music and everything that goes with that. Years ago, I pondered what it would be like to make my own mandolin instead of paying $3000 for a good one; but tossed away the idea for lack of tools, patience, know-how, etc... We'll I started a wood shop in my garage earlier this year, and fell in love with wood all over again...sounds stupid, but its true. So when the girls birthday rolled around in August, I presented them with a ukulele that I had made from a kit I bought online.

So after I finished the kit...the rest was history. So here lies the epic adventures of Syri Stringed Instruments. Lets play together!
